Celebration of Peer Review Week 2024 by Dr. S. R. Lasker Library, Bangladesh
Dr. S. R. Lasker Library, East West University (EWU), Dhaka, Bangladesh has launched an awareness building campaign titled “Avoiding Predatory Publishing.” This campaign is aimed at newly appointed faculty members and young researchers within the EWU community.
The library has established a booth within its premises to highlight the significant role of peer review in upholding research standards, offer strategies for recognizing and steering clear of predatory publishing practices, and explore the integration of AI technology in the peer review process.

Demonstration of Eliza, the AI-supported peer-review tool

In this webinar we will introduce ‘Eliza’, the first AI-driven peer review tool. Eliza uses the latest NLP-technology (incl. LLM and semantic matching) for analysing both papers submitted to journals or conferences and first peer review drafts in order to provide valuable feedback to the peer-reviewer for improving his/her report. Eliza also facilitates the editorial decision process by presenting concise information to the editor after the peer-review reports are ready for better and faster decision making. The webinar will first discuss the main features of Eliza and then demonstrate the tool itself. After this, we are open to discuss Eliza with the participants.

PREreview and JMIR Publications are joining forces to explore ways to improve the traditional peer-review process by engaging the research community. We hope you will take part in a community Live Review that aims to be open, time-efficient, scientifically rigorous, fair, balanced, and inclusive.
The Live Review will be hosted by two facilitators who will guide all participants through a constructive discussion of the preprint following a curated template. The event will last 90 minutes and yield a review based on the collaborative notes participants will jointly take during the call. The review will be shared and published on PREreview.org under a CC BY 4.0 license. Participants will have the option to receive credit for their participation.

Open peer review of preprints on VeriXiv: towards a publish, review, curate model of scholarly communication

VeriXiv is a preprint server that has been built by F1000 in partnership with the Gates Foundation. Gates-funded authors have the option of submitting preprints for open peer review on VeriXiv, followed by final publication and curation in a linked outlet, starting (in 2024) with Gates Open Research. We will discuss the unique aspects of VeriXiv’s post-publication open peer review model and why open posting of reviews is valuable both for authors and for reviewers. This will also include a discussion of the publish, review, curate model and the Gates Foundation’s 2025 Open Access policy refresh, which aims to advance this model by requiring Gates grantees to publish their outputs as a preprint ahead of final publication in a peer reviewed venue. A Q&A will follow the main presentation.

Innovation and technology in peer review: The case of Living with Machines
We will publish a blog post outlining some of our learnings so far from an open peer review process we’ve been running for one of the University of London Press’ own open access book projects, Living with Machines.
Based on the hugely important research project of the same name, Living with Machines is at the cutting edge of Digital History. Collectively written by the project’s large, multidisciplinary research team, the highly collaborative nature of the book makes it an ideal candidate for the kind of open peer review model we wanted to trial. The open review is taking place iteratively during 2024 and we are releasing early drafts of the book chapters for review in three phases.
